Ladies Day is our second best attended raceday of our season (Easter Monday being the busiest) and, as it is also the first raceday of our new season, it is always especially busy for those of us in the office.
The refurbishment of the Southdown Bar is being completed this week which should be bring several benefits for Grandstand and Premier Enclosure customers – we’ve added extra seating and tables, and will be serving good quality light refreshments in here too.
On a raceday it is usually impossible to find time to sit down for a meal, so I use the opportunity to sample one of our mobile or fast food options. Pieminster Pies and the Sweet and Sour Chicken from Alice’s Noodle Bar are particular favourites of mine. Sunday is actually one of the rare occasions when I will sit down and experience the dining and service from our hospitality menu as we entertain our top clients.
Getting the catering offer right for our customers is vitally important to us. We try to provide a balance of the established favourites alongside trying new things, and tailor extra facilities to the type of crowd we are expecting. Hence Pimms tents on Sunday, and a hog roast and speciality sausage barbeque in addition to the normal units!
We’ve also put baby changing units into all enclosures to improve the facilities we provide for families who come racing here.
We are currently all keeping a close eye on the weather forecast – having now worked in racing for 6 years I have stopped worrying too much about the forecast, though I am hoping they are right and we have a dry and bright day.
