Well done to the groundstaff for getting the meeting on after the weekends torrential rain.
I reckon all of the races with be huge tests of stamina and slow-motion finishes beckon. CELIAN was running a big race here till falling and he could take some pegging back in the 3:20. The Amateur Riders H'cap Chase could be an immense slog over 3m 2f and Portrait Royale from the local stable of Miss Newton-Smith could be the answer with just 10st to carry. The horse held its form well last season off OR90+ but the problem is that it has not run well at all in 4 races at Plumpton! For me, it has to be ITS A CLASSIC who is proven over C&D, handles heavy going and comes here in the peak of form.

Having been a member of many years standing I decided to attend the pre racing tour organised for 15 Feb meeting. I can only say a great thank you to those involved. The talks by both the Clerk of Scales and Clerk of the Course were excellent. Both full of information and instances of applied common sense. The SIS team were also very interesting and keen to answer any questions.

Thanks again.

One further thought is that maybe another 'event' could be arranged to this time include the Stewards

Many congratulations on a richly deserved Award to the hardworking groundstaff.
We are constantly anazed that the Plumpton course has been raceable (particularly 3rd January) when racing at other courses had to be abandoned.

The concession price for senior citizens in the Centre of the Course is £5 when the Centre Course is open, except for the Easter Festival when there is no concession. Accompanied children under 16 get free entry for all racemeetings.

I was delighted to see a mention of Shaef and his trainer, as well as Andy Jarvis, the stable jockey. Towser Gosden trained at Southover in Lewes, and Shaef was probably his best jumper. Later on he had a number of good flat horses for Sir Harold and Lady Zia Wernher, culminating in Aggressor, who won the 1960 George VI and Queen Elizabeth stakes at Ascot, at that time the richest race on the calendar. It took me back to the happy days of the 1950s, when we all knew that life was just going to get better and better!

Can I ask a question - why are there not concession prices for children? - we would love to come to the races for a day but the cost for 3 under 11 year-olds of full tickets is prohibitively expensive for the family
