Raceday Review – Monday 12th March 2018

 In Plumpton Blog

This season, our raceday reviews and previews will come from Timeform’s Philip Spink. Founded in 1948, Timeform is a sports data and content provider. Timeform ratings are widely accepted as the definitive measure of racing merit. Their horse racing service produces daily racecards for every meeting in the UK and Ireland and they also offer form guides for racing in the US, South Africa, Dubai and Qatar. The official Plumpton race programme is one of three published by the Halifax-based company. Philip Spink is the editor of the Plumpton Official Race Programme for Timeform. He will back any runners at the track trained by Venetia Williams and thinks Plumpton may have seen a future star in the shape of last January’s novice hurdle winner Jerrysback. Larry got off the mark over hurdles at the sixth attempt fitted with a tongue tie for Gary Moore in the 188Bet 10% Back At Cheltenham Tuesday Novices’ Hurdle. He jumped well from the front under Jamie Moore and should make his mark back in handicaps having chased home the EBF Novices’ Final third First Assignment at Huntingdon prior to today.

Duhallow Lad landed a gamble on his first run over fences in the Peter Earl Memorial Novices’ Handicap Chase, run in memory of the Ditchling-based owner of 1998 Grand National winner Earth Summit. Conditions were not unlike those encountered by Earth Summit for his famous Aintree win twenty years ago and Duhallow Lad under Tom O’Brien was one of only two finishers.

O’Brien enjoyed a double on the afternoon as Snippetydoodah returned to form to land a second victory at Plumpton for Michael Roberts in the 188Bet Faller Refunds At Cheltenham Thursday Mares’ Handicap Hurdle.

Tambura and young rider Zac Baker are another pair with a good record at Plumpton and they followed up last month’s Towcester success in the 188Bet Best Priced Mullins Cheltenham Wednesday Handicap Hurdle, beating last year’s winner Ballyheigue Bay.

The Lion Dancer showed his first form over fences to land the 188Bet Faller Refunds At Cheltenham Thursday Mares’ Handicap Hurdle for Charlie Mann and Gavin Sheehan.

Mr Lando was a ready winner of the concluding Strong Flavours Catering Handicap Hurdle, drawing clear under Garry Lavery for Johnny Farrelly.
