Raceday Review – Sunday 15th April 2018

 In Plumpton Blog

This season, our raceday reviews and previews will come from Timeform’s Philip Spink. Founded in 1948, Timeform is a sports data and content provider. Timeform ratings are widely accepted as the definitive measure of racing merit. Their horse racing service produces daily racecards for every meeting in the UK and Ireland and they also offer form guides for racing in the US, South Africa, Dubai and Qatar. The official Plumpton race programme is one of three published by the Halifax-based company. Philip Spink is the editor of the Plumpton Official Race Programme for Timeform. He will back any runners at the track trained by Venetia Williams and thinks Plumpton may have seen a future star in the shape of last January’s novice hurdle winner Jerrysback. The inaugural Sussex Raceday showcased plenty of what the region has to offer and the seven-race card produced some exciting action. Chris Gordon has sent out over a hundred winners at the Sussex racecourses and enjoyed a tremendous double.

Rothman had no doubt tested the patience of his trainer before today, but opened his account for the yard after eighteen months of trying in the Premier League Betting At 188Bet Handicap Hurdle, seeing off the well-backed Midnight Maestro to land a good pot under Tom Cannon.

Baddesley Knight looked a good prospect for the yard when winning the 188Bet Live Casino Intermediate Bumper. He’s one to follow when going jumping.

Holbrook Park continued his good record at Plumpton with victory in the Download The App At 188Bet Handicap Chase. Neil King’s charge was soon in command under Harry Teal and could be worth putting in the notebook for next season’s Sussex National here.

Six Gun Serenade got off the mark in the Enhanced Place Odds At 188Bet Maiden Hurdle for Suzi Best and Brendan Powell, edging ahead of the equally-promising Dancing Doug on the run-in.

Bennachie opened his account over fences in the In Play Betting At 188Bet Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase, readily coming clear under Charlie Deutsch for Tim Vaughan.

Brother Bennett has struggled for consistency but showed battling qualities to get up late under Page Fuller in the Best Odds Guaranteed At 188Bet Handicap Chase for Zoe Davison.

Moving in Style followed up his Taunton win in the Happy 21st Birthday Sophie Mellett Handicap Hurdle for Neil Mulholland and Philip Donovan.
