Plumpton Racecourse’s first meeting of the 2013-14 season, the Family Raceday in association with Freebets, takes place on Sunday 22nd September with an action packed programme of family entertainments, with Free Entry for accompanied children under 18.
In addition to all the excitement of a day at the races, there is plenty for children of all ages to see and do. There is a funfair and face painting in the centre of the course, the Sussex Wildlife Trust, Retraining of Racehorses display and a host of other themed entertainments. With admission prices starting from only £10 for Adults and kids are FREE, it’s a great value day out for all the family.
The Susex Peggers will be performing a Mounted Skill at Arms display in medieval costume prior to racing. Skill at Arms is exhilarating, action packed and fun. Disciplines are many and involve riding at the canter and gallop, on the flat and over jumps, with weapons such as sword, lance, revolver or pricker. Points are awarded for striking and carrying targets, and for speed and style. More information can be found at http://www.sussexpeggers.com/index.shtml.
Family Day is an ideal day to bring the family racing. It has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, and many racegoers enjoy bringing their own picnics into the centre of the course for a day out in the glorious Sussex countryside. You can book a table in advance in the Paddock or Marquee Restaurant for a delicious 3 course lunch, or choose from a selection of food outlets including a delicious Hog Roast or local sausage BBQ.
A raceday host will be on hand to guide you through the day’s racing with features and interviews through the afternoon from the parade ring, and there’s a tipster panel before racing to help you pick some winning selections.
You can keep up to date with the latest information about the raceday by following us on twitter @plumptonraces, and by listening to the Plumpton Podcast which is available the evening before each raceday and features a preview of the day’s racing including interviews with trainers.
