Following consultation with the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), the unfortunate decision has been made to abandon Sunday’s raceday (Sunday 10 May).

This follows a confirmed case of Equine Influenza and EHV-4 in an unvaccinated non-thoroughbred horse based at a livery yard adjacent to the racecourse.

Throughout the process, we have remained in regular communication with the yard concerned, our veterinary team, the British Horseracing Authority, and independent infectious disease experts to monitor the situation and assess the level of risk.

The infected horse, which remains isolated at the livery yard, has undergone further testing and is still actively shedding the virus, given the very close proximity of the livery yard to the racecourse, the decision has been taken with the unanimous support of the BHA’s independent veterinary group.

The health and wellbeing of horses and participants remains our absolute priority, and it is believed this is the most responsible course of action at this time in order to minimise any risk to the wider thoroughbred racing population.

We appreciate the understanding and support of our owners, trainers, racegoers, and the wider racing community during this situation.

Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure ticket holders will be refunded automatically. Refunds will be processed as quickly as possible, but please allow up to 28 working days for these to appear. All hospitality bookers will be contacted directly by a member of our team to discuss all available options.

The BHA will continue to liaise with Plumpton Racecourse regarding whether there is any feasibility for the fixture to be rearranged, subject to ongoing risk assessment and wider race programme availability.
