Disabled Companion/Personal Assistant Admission Policy
In accordance with our obligations to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, the racecourse is pleased to provide free admission to one accompanying companion/personal assistant in circumstances where a disabled person would otherwise be at a substantial disadvantage without the companion/personal assistant. A ticket for free companion/personal assistant admission on racedays is available on the terms below.
1. Companion/personal assistant admission
Provided that you purchase a valid advance raceday ticket for yourself, you are entitled to apply for ONE free ticket for the same raceday for the person who is accompanying you to assist you as a companion/personal assistant. The companion/personal assistant must be able to provide you with appropriate assistance which might include:
a) assisting you in moving around the racecourse;
b) helping you evacuate the racecourse in the event of an emergency;
c) accompanying and/or assisting you in using the racecourse’s toilets;
d) assisting you in purchasing refreshments and food or using other services.
Please note that the companion/personal assistant admission policy does apply to disabled persons under the age of 18 even though they are not required to purchase a ticket.
2. Companion/personal assistant ticket conditions
The free ticket provided to your companion/personal assistant will carry the same terms and conditions as the raceday ticket that you hold.
3. Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for free companion/personal assistant admission are regularly reviewed and the racecourse reserves the right to update them from time to time. Currently those who receive one of the following benefits are eligible to apply for a free companion/personal assistant ticket:
• Receipt of the mid-rate care element or the high rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA), War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement or Personal Independence Payments (PIP).
• Receipt of either the Severe Disablement Allowance or Attendance Allowance.
• War Pensioners' Mobility Allowance or War or Service Disablement Pension for 80% or more disability.
• Blind or partially sighted registration certificate (BD8 or CVI Certificate) or evidence from an eye specialist, for example an optometrist, that the individual would qualify to be registered as severely sight impaired (blind) or sight impaired (partially sighted). Further advice can be found on the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) website.
• A personal letter from the GP, community nurse or social worker that the individual has a long term impairment or ‘disability' and requires assistance.
• Confirmation in writing from Social Services that the individual is included on their Deaf Register, or a letter or report from an aural specialist confirming that hearing loss has been recorded at 70 – 95 dBHL or worse.
• Confirmation in writing from Social Services that the individual has a learning difficulty or disability. This may include Proof of Registration with Social Services, or if not on the Local Authority Register, a letter from a doctor or support worker confirming that the individual has a difficulty in learning new skills, or may be unable to cope independently. For children – a letter from the head teacher at a special school confirming eligibility will be acceptable.
NB: This list is not an exhaustive list and consideration will always be given to any other evidence that can be provided.
